As a proud platinum sponsor of this year’s Global Privacy Summit in Washington, D.C., the Nymity team was on the ground, actively interacting with attendees at our booth, as well as speaking as subject matter experts throughout the course of the event
The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) is “the world’s largest and most comprehensive global information privacy community”, and each year, the group’s conferences represent some of the industry’s premier events. The Global Privacy Summit is their biggest event of the year, bringing together the world’s data protection professionals for a unique combination of keynote presentations, networking, and hands-on, practical workshops. Over 70 educational breakout sessions were facilitated, spanning from practical instruction, to innovation, to the GDPR, and the individuals in attendance represented an equally diverse set of roles- newly minted privacy pros had the opportunity to mingle with DPAs and top regulators.
Nymity’s Biggest Presence at the Summit
The Global Privacy Summit represented an exciting time for Nymity, for a number of reasons:
Paul Breitbarth on the Main Stage talking about Demonstrating Compliance
Firstly, our very own Paul Breitbarth, Director of Strategic Research and Regulator Outreach, spoke and moderated a panel with Peter Lefkowitz Chief Privacy and Digital Risk Officer, Citrix Systems and Donna Stamp, AVP, Global Privacy, Enterprise Holdings. The panel addressed the issue of prioritizing your efforts to ensure that you can maintain and demonstrate GDPR compliance on an ongoing basis. This coincided with Nymity’s newly released paper, “A Practical Guide to Demonstrating Compliance”. As we’ve discussed in the first two parts of our three-part blog series, the Guide contains an unprecedented collection of practical knowledge to assist organisations in prioritising their privacy programs to meet GDPR obligations. Paul’s talk was very well received, and resulted in a great deal of foot traffic and heated discussion at our trade booth throughout the conference.
Ray Pathak on the Little Big Stage introducing the Privacy Compliance Software Guide
Next, Ray Pathak, our Vice President of Privacy Office Solutions spoke on the Little Big Stage about Nymity’s recently launched “2018 Privacy Compliance Software Buyer’s Guide”. The Guide contains valuable insights into the best research-based software to ensure compliance with the GDPR and the world’s privacy regulations. The Guide covers all three types of privacy management software: Legal Research Software, Privacy Office Support Software, and Privacy Management Software. For more information on the Guide, read our blog posts on the topic, or download it directly from our website.
Launch of the Nymity GDPR Implementation Tracker™
Perhaps the most exciting facet of the conference was Nymity’s launch of the GDPR Implementation Tracker™, the first tool of its kind to provide specialised, localised GDPR knowledge in real-time.
The GDPR allows member states to enact national data protection laws to supplement legislation, thereby potentially creating small differences between companies’ obligations in member states. Failure to comply with these obligations can result in severe penalties, making it essential for Privacy Officers to remain informed on national law developments. Nymity’s brand new GDPR Implementation Tracker™ provides the most comprehensive and current GDPR information, updated on a daily basis.
The GDPR Implementation Tracker™ allows users to:
• Stay up-to-date with national law developments
• Track the current status of each country’s GDPR implementation progress
• Understand which countries are going beyond what is required by the GDPR by including additional obligations in their national implementation
• Get updates on GDPR motivated laws around the world
• Export maps and data to create customizable reports
Release of Report on Processing Personal Data on the Basis of Legitimate Interests Under the GDPR
Tweeted as the hottest release at the IAPP Summit, this essential report – which was a collaboration by Nymity and the FPF – helps organizations better understand how to use and apply legitimate interests. The report discusses more than 40 cases from over 15 countries, representing a wide variety of data processing activities. Download this report to find out more.
Nymity ExpertPIA™ - Instantly Produce Accurate Article 30 and 35 Reports
Nymity’s ExpertPIA™ was another hot topic at the Summit. For those organisations processing large amounts of data, or with more complicated processing activities, the GDPR Articles 30 (Records of Processing Activities), and 35 (Data Protection Impact Assessment Reports) represent key priorities in demonstrating compliance. Nymity ExpertPIA™ produces out-of-the-box, turnkey Article 30 and 35 reports, providing users with unparalleled peace of mind, knowing that these obligations have been met, right down to the letter.
Nymity’s Sponsorship of the IAPP Privacy Bar Section Forum
Nymity was proud to be the exclusive sponsor of the Privacy Bar Section Forum, which is a half-day event designed for privacy professionals in the legal field. Nymity’s Chief Global Privacy Strategist, Teresa Troester-Falk, was honoured to present the Privacy Bar Section Forum Scholarship to Ethan Plail, a 3L student at Georgetown Law School.
